New Number Plates Or Good And Safe Road Networks

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is a Commission that is in charge of the Road Safety administration and management in Nigeria. and you can find the their main aim and objective here.

Recently a lot of fingers has been pointed at the commission in regards to the New Number Plates and Drivers License it recently introduced to the public. and many individuals and groups including the House of representative have come out to challenge this new introduction and has ordered that it should be on a temporary hold.

The re-validation of the old number plates according to the FRSC is N10,000 for cars and N2,000 for motorcycles. However, for a license to be duly re-validated, according to the FRSC, the old driver's license must be original- the FRSC should be able to trace it in their data base to discover when it was first issued. In case the old document could not be traced, it will be treated as a fresh application. For new registration, the prices are stipulated as follow:

1. Standard N15,000
2. Articulated (Trucks etc) N20,000
3. Out of series N40,000
4. Fancy N80,000
5. Dealer N30,000
6. Government N15,000
7. Government Fancy N40,000

But the Truth remains that though this might seem to be a good gesture but with the issues surrounding this and the price tag placed on the new Number places which many believe to be outrageous one will have nothing to say than that this is like a drift from its main priority. We still have hanging issues about how terrible our roads are, the numerous accidents being witnessed daily, Traffic jams and many other road problems and yet what they have in mind is to generate more revenues for the Government who will channel this funds into other places with our roads still left dilapidated.

All in all I think we need to put priorities first on solving the road problems in the country before talking about introducing other things that are not as weighty as this problems.
